A couple of Saturdays ago, our stake held a groundbreaking ceremony for our new stake center. It was really neat to be a part of an event we've anticipated since we got here. When we first arrived in Cambridge three years ago, people told us that a stake center was going to be built around the corner from the old boiler manufacturing building the church is currently leasing. Our stake doesn't actually have a stake center- we go to stake conference in the Boston Stake's building located in a suburb outside of town. But of course, as things go in the 'People's Republic of Cambridge' it takes longer to get approval for a building than it does to actually build the building. There has been at least two city council hearings concerning the building/site (we attended one of them).
So, the church finally 'broke' ground on the site and it should be completed in February 2010. The best thing about the location is it is right off of a T-stop, making it SO convenient for many members of our stake. There was an article in the Boston Globe about the ceremony. You should read it!
